"To be true to yourself" - A Response

From Persepolis, Marjane’s grandmother told her “to be true to herself” and to be true to their culture. The quote “to be true to herself” is a strong quote since in most of the films that are watched, many of the characters start off with either being true to themselves or not at all and learns to in the end. The character that I see to be the one who is true to him or herself is Kabir Khan, the character from Chak De! India. He’s the one that I felt was strong in being true to himself the whole entire film.
Kabir Khan
Kabir Khan was a famous hockey player for India. But at his last shot he failed his team with a wrong move. But due to the paparazzi, they accused Kabir as being a traitor and the one helping the opposing team to win. Did he? Well, no, he did not. He loved his country.

Even though Kabir was threaten of his life and banned from playing in the India’s hockey team, he still held on for many years, until an opportunity came to him; he became India’s women’s hockey team’s coach. Everyone looked down upon him for what he supposedly was said to had done to his country. But he just brushes their words off his shoulder even though it does hurt.
With the women’s hockey team, everyone thought that they were going to be a failure, just because they were women. But Kabir didn’t see it like that at all; he saw that there was a possibility of winning, and getting India back on top. That’s why he wouldn’t let them off so easily.
Kabir and his team
Overall, Kabir was true to himself by drilling it into his head that, he didn’t do anything wrong, he was blamed. Not only that but he still kept hockey within himself. And it goes with the women’s hockey team, where he still has hopes for the team to win for the country. All of this showed how he was being true to himself and to his country, not giving up so easily even though everyone was looking down on him.

The Triplets of Belleville- Review

From Beginning to End (A Summary):

This film began with Champion having a small tricycle as a gift from his grandmother, Madame Souza. Champion always wanted a bike. From since then on, Madame Souza helped push Champion in biking long distance.

Of course one day, Champion was kidnapped by one of the French Mafia. Champion was used and toyed with as little testing rats, running on a bike competing with other captives, for a gamble set off by the mafia.

With the help from the Triplets of Belleville, Madame Souza along with Bruno, Madame's dog, they were able to locate the gambling area and rescue Champion.

Featured Songs/ Musics:

Benoit Charest
The songs that are featured in The Triplets of Belleville are snappy and quaint. The melodies are composed by  Benoit Charest. From this film, the Triplets of Belleville uses everyday items in the household, such as the refrigerator, newspapers and vacuum. Not only that, but the theme song that is sung is the "Belleville Rendez-Vous", which have a classic touch and is catchy.

Here is a video of the song "Belleville Rendez-Vous" :

My Thoughts:

I got to say that what I wanted to hear from this film was fulfilling! I really love the music that was featured in the film; it's the kinds that I don't usually will hear nor listen to. This film is a must watch.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - Review

From Beginning to End (A Summary):

This film was a 2000 martial art film. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was directed by Ang Lee. The film is based off on Chinese stories, known as the Crane Iron Pentalogy.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon became a international success; winning them over 40 awards. The awards that they won was the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, in Taiwan, nominated for also for Best Foreign Film and Best Picture.

The film is about two warriors, Master Li Mu Bai and Yu Shu Lien, who are in search for the stolen sword and the one who stole the sword; who in which is a nobleman's daughter, Jen Yu. Jen Yu with the sword goes off in being a "fake" noble sword man. On Jen Yu's adventure of going through the 'world', her past lover, Luo Xiao Hu comes in search for her, wanting to bring her back to the desert. But of course when, Li Mu Bai caught up with Jen Yu, they fought. But Jen Yu was saved by her master, and taken to a cave, where she was poisoned. Li Mu Bai caught up with them, and found Jen Yu slowly being poisoned. Li Mu Bai was attack by Jen Yu's master and was poisoned very deadly. Jen Yu knew the cure, but came too late to save him. In the end, Yu Shu Lien points Jen Yu to Luo Xiao Hu's hideout. From there, she jumped off the cliff, wishing for him a great life in the desert.

Wu Xia Novel:

Buddhist
The Wu Xia martial arts came from the Chinese novel genre, for which features martial art heroes, who knows how to fight, such as swordsmen. These Wu Xia novels are set in ancient China, each story having their own kind focus on a certain martial art; for which these focus are on Buddhism, Taoism, Yishu and many other kinds.

The definition of "martial arts" in Chinese means to stop fighting. For where these novels are written in ways where justice is brought out and evil is cleared out.

Taoist
My Thoughts:

I thought that overall this film was fascinating. The martial arts are wonderful. It makes me want to know how to fly too.

Sword lady

A Cultural Bridge - The King & Me

There are many characters in the many movies that have been watched within the class. These characters can overall be found being determine and a dynamic kind of person throughout the film. Of course the one character that I thought stood out for me is King George the VI, from The King’s Speech. King George VI is trouble speaking, determine with his current situation, and willing to give things a try.

King George VI have always had the trouble of speaking up, whether it is a speech to an individual or group, and even to go against someone. He just stutters. This stuttering of course came to be when he was still little; he was afraid actually, to start out with. But with a little push of support from his wife and his friend the therapist, he was able to speak up and be so ever strong.
There were times when King George VI did not think that such treatment would ever help him recover from his stuttering. But due to wanting to do what’s right for the country and for himself, he then of course did whatever exercise the therapist told him to do. King George VI did bail out, but he still stuck with the therapist. He didn’t know at all of how the results would be but he still was determined to get his voice back in place.
Overall, King George was willing to give things a try. Even though the therapist was telling him to do weird and maybe even unnecessary exercises, such as talking like singing, he still gave it a try. He doesn’t want to, but to prove the therapist wrong, he went up with the challenge. Going up with these exercise, King George learns that there is and can be a possible positive outcome of his voice, but yet he was also nervous.
To tie King George VI in the cultural brigde, I compare myself to him as almost similar, but in different circumstances. With how King George VI’s speaking ability in the beginning, it’s reminds me of myself, since I also have a weak public speaking skills. But of course after having done some practices I’ve improved bits by bits; not so much but enough to also see results. Within the film, I see that he’s determined to speak, speak better. And with that, I also found myself to want to speak better, since I know that I can speak, and that I have a voice too in me. Not only that but, the way that King George VI was willing to try also reminded myself of myself. I was told to try anything no matter what, cause sometimes it is just good to try and overcome any fear that, that “thing”, whether it is food, bungee jumping, snowboarding, swimming, or learning to drive a car, there will be a result, a good one too, to learn of yourself.

The Fish Fall In Love - A Review

From Beginning to End (A Summary):

The Fish Fall in Love is an Iranian film. This film here was directed by Ali Raffi'i. The film of course took place in Iran and is know as Mahiha Ham Ashegh Mishavand. The Fish Fall in Love was released in January 2007.

This film began with the main character, Aziz, who went back to his home place in Iran. His plan of returning back to his hometown was to sell remaining family possessions. But when Aziz reaches the home of his birthplace, he finds out that his family house was already occupied and used as a restaurant by his past ex-girlfriend, Atieh, and three other ladies; one of them her daughter, Touka. All four ladies cooks and serve Aziz's plates, hoping to change his mind into not selling off the house and land. Aziz in fact does not sell the house. He left it the way it is already taken. But of course meeting up with Atieh again after so many years, their love for one another has not left the air. But then, Aziz "disappears" again, leaving the love between them unfinished but with an ending.

Food I-Ran:

chelow kabab
There' are many food [ dishes ] that are found in this film. For sure enough, the foods are what Iranians do eat.

Here is the national dish that Iranians will either be cooking and eating.

Chelow Kabab: Consist of lamb meat marinated in lemon juice/yogurt, onions, saffron. Served with grilled onions and tomatoes on top of chelow - with butter poured on top, along with a raw egg yolk.

chelow [a type of rice]
My Thought:

I got to say that this film sure got me hungry; hungry for some curry! It is well filmed; this film just brings the warmth of a local restaurant in any town or city.

My Life in Pink (Ma Vie En Rose)- Review

From Beginning to End (A Summary):

Ma Vie En Rose, or My Life in Pink, is a Belgium-France film. It was filmed in Belgium, but the language spoken in the film is French. This film was released in 1997 and was directed by Alain Berliner. The film was nominated for Golden Globe Best Foreign Film.

My Life in Pink, is a film about a little boy name Ludovic. Ludovic personally feels and "knows" that he is in the wrong body, and accidentally was bore into a boys body. Ludovic dresses up as a girl, but his family and neighbors thinks that it is a joke.

Soon enough Ludovic falls in love with his dad's boss' son, Jerome, and told his mother that when he's a girl they'll get marry.

After the incident of being in the Boss' deceased daughter's room, Jerome and his parents looked at Ludovic differently.

Not only that, Ludovic's parents even took him to a psychiatrist to help "cure" him. But of course it had no effect.

Ludovic was treated badly from his parents, and so he forces himself to become a boy.

Jerome and Ludovic
But right before the school play, Ludovic saw his chance of being girl and getting Jerome to himself. He locked the girl, who was playing the main role with Jerome, in the bathroom and stole her outfit. Then on stage as Jerome was to suppose to kiss the girl, he found that it was Ludovic, and he backed away not knowing that he pulled the viel off of Ludovic's face. Thus everyone in the audience [all the parents] were in shocked and almost disgusted.

Every since that happened, the neighbors treated Ludovic and his family differently, as if something was really wrong.

Therefore in the end, the family moved out of the town to a different town. By then of course, Ludovic does his best to not be a girl. But at a neighbor's costume birthday party, Ludovic's outfit was switched by force, and without realizing what happened Ludovic's mother slapped him and threatening him.

In the end, Ludovic's family learns to accept the situation since he is a family member.

Transexual:

From this film, we can totally see that being gay, lesbian, or transexual, is what others do not want in their family. In the film, it is seen and considered as dishonoring the family, and a shameful thing.

The way that the parents of Ludovic reacted were in fact overboard. They were not willingly to accept the fact that Ludovic sees himself as a girl, therefore resulted in yelling, slapping, threatening, and being treated differently.  Even now within the whole wide world, that's how it still be, due to cultures and family name.

A good example of this happening in the world now is Bell Nuntrita, who is also a transexual. She appeared in Thailand Got Talent, for a competition and showed her skill in singing as a girl and guy. Nunita gave a little inside of her life where her father did not accept that she's a trans and beats her up. But she proved her dad wrong, by singing so beautifully appealing to the audience.

My Thought:

I thought that this film was good and should be watched. It brings in a lot of what and how others maybe living their life as, being gay, lesbian or transexual.

Waking Ned Devine is a comedy film that was directed by Kirk Jones. This film was filmed in Ireland on the location of Isles of Man. This film was released on November 20, 1998. The actor, David Kelly got nominated for the  Screen Actor's Guild award.

They found out that it was one of their friend, Ned Devine. Of course when they went to see him, they found him dead, smiling, and holding onto his lottery ticket.

Therefore on  the day that the mister who came to inspect the "winner" Jackie and Michael fooled the man. They imposed as Ned Devine and signed the contracts. The inspector was not just done yet, he planned to visit and bring in the money with two weeks. Therefore when he left, Jackie and Michael brought everyone in the town together to discuss and to have them lie along with them to obtain the money. Of course everyone was happy to be a part f it since it they'll be getting a share of the money. Everyone was willing to, but one person, Lizzie Qyinn.

On the day that they gave Ned Devine his funeral, the inspector came and gave them the check. Happily they all were, but Lizzie  Quinn did not give up and went to a phone booth that was away from their town to dial to the lottery place and call in for the impersonation of the town. But as she dials, the inspector drove up and coming his way was a truck! The inspector dodged the truck and slammed the phone booth that had Lizzie Quinn in there right down the cliff.

In the end everyone basically were happy and drank bottoms up to Ned Devine.

Irish Features (Culture):

From viewing this film I found it to be that in the Irish culture (if my assumption is correct) that Irish people love to drink for almost all occassion - happy occassions, along with that music too; musics that are fast beating rthyms to the heart and ears. From this film we also get the sense of gatherings of families too.

My Thoughts on the Film:

Overall I thought that this film was funny. It pulled out all the things that one person or a group of people can do to obtain one thing in life. I recommend this film to anyone over the age of 13.

As Olive prepares herself for the stage, he family finds that their Olive is different -- plain, and not glamourous like the others. They still let her go on stage supporting her. As it came to where the contestants shows their talents, Olive enters stage showing them a dance that her grandpa showed her, everyone in the audience were in shock, but her family still stood up cheering her on. As they were leaving the building, they were told to never ever enter Olive into any of their pageants. And so they all left back home.

The King's Speech - A Review

From Beginning to End (A Summary):

This film is about a king, the one and only King George the III. Ever since growing up he had always have stutter speech. Therefore after a big speech that he gave to the public and broadcast, he went for help, seeking speech therapist. King George indeed found one, more like his wife found one, but this therapist was unlike any other therapist. The therapist welcomed the king as he was not the king at all, seeing that they were all equal status, friends.

This therapist helped King George through his tough times of giving speech. Through trainings and regular meet ups, they became really good friends. The therapist opened the king's eyes to the world of not needing to be afraid, to have a voice and overcome all fears.

Thoughts:

This is a touching film ever made in 2010. I recommend that this film should indeed be watch. It brings in the culture of Britian, the bonds among friends and families; a voice that conquers  all fears.

Little Otik - A Review

From Beginning to End (A Summary):

This film is set in Czech Republic. This film was filmed based off of a folk tale that is similar to the works of the Grim Brothers.

This film is about a married couple who does not have any kids, but are eager to have one at least. Of course the wife becomes a bit crazy. One day at their summer house, while the husband was digging out the tree trunks, he dung out one tree trunk and found it to look similar to a kid / baby, therefore takes it to the shed and started to make the trunk similar as possible to a real child, and then he gave it to his wife. His wife was super happy to have a "kid". When it was time to leave, the wife was so crazy that she didn't want to leave the "baby", the husband thought that it was going over board. As they left to go back to the city, at home she was really crazy. The husband took her back to the summer house and locked her in the house along with the "baby", and left them there for a week or so. As he came back to see her, he found out that the "baby" was a live as human, sucking as a baby, gooing as a baby too. It frighten him, that he almost chopped the "baby" apart, but for the sake of his wife he didn't.

They brought the "baby" back, and the wife pretends to be pregnant for 8 months and also to give birth. Everyone in they're apartment building thought that she did have a baby. Of course after a few weeks, the "baby" ate the wife's hair. The baby became more and more hungry.

The little girl next door to them was suspicious and found out that the "baby" was not even a baby at all. She then read a book, a folk book, that told of the story of Otik, a baby like trunk that turned into a eating machine, eating everything in it's way.

Indeed after many disappearance of people that stopped by the couple's house, they locked the "baby" into a trunk in the basement. But the little girl found out and took care of it. In the end, the old lady that tendered the cabbage garden took her hoe and killed the "baby"

My Thought:

I thought that this film was really interesting but really, it was gross. Well only if the film was not filmed in this kind of way, for which it zoomed into the food, the mouths of the characters and the animation. I thought it was too much. But other than that it was also scary. I recommend others to watch it.
WARNING: DO NOT EAT BEFORE VIEWING THIS FILM ... lol

Of Love and Eggs

From Beginning to End (A Summary):

This film was directed by Garin Nugroho and released in November 2008. This film is an Indonesian film that is set in a market in Jakarta.

The film revolves in a market focusing on the family of three little children, Bimo, Asih, and Rindu, and of course pulling out the culture, religion and tradition of these kids.

With Bimo's side of the story, he helps his older brother sell eggs. Bimo is reallly troublesome, but that's only because he wants attention - especially attention from a motherly figure. From being like this, Bimo meets a young city girl and favors her as his mother figure, therefore going to her and helping her with housework. But then one day she brought a man into her house and Bimo starts to tell the man to go away and started to call the girl "Mom", frustrated she told Bimo to go home. Bimo got home and became really sad that he locked himself inside the house not letting any of his family and friends come in. Therefore Bimo's older brother brings the girl to calm him down and she did. With this Bimo's brother and the girl became closer together.

Then from Asih's side of the familly, she's left alone with her father, since her mother ran away. Asih's a strong little girl and wants no one to be in her mother's place. But her father wants her to sort of forget her mother and move on, therefore he throws away her mother's rug. but that didn't get in her way of stealing it back.  Asih's father [almost] found himself a widow with an adopted daughter, who he found some commons with her. In the end her mother came back.

As for Rindu, she in a way is retarded - basically can't really talk so well but she understands. She's an adopted daughter only, living with her mom. Ever since she was little she knows that her own older brother will one day come back for her, thus sending lots of mail on a dove to her brother (somewhere). Rindu encounters the fact that her mom wants to move into Asih's father's place and live as a family. In the end Rindu's brother indeed did come back to her bringing in the dome to their cathedral.

Family Bond:

Within this film we can see that family is a big thing in the Indonesian culture. From this film, for example, mother figure is what the kids wants the most. Not only that be the sense of having siblings there for you when you know that you have no one else.

Hoop Dream - Their Message a Cultural Bridge

Cultral Bridge:

This film here raises a number of issues concerning race, class, economic division, education and values in contemporary America. Not only that, but it also gives us one of the most intimate views of the inner-city life captured on film.

This documentary pulls out the race, class, economic, education and values from two teenagers' life, of William Gates and Arthur Agee.

These two teenage boys are African American and lives in ghetto neighborhoods. They encounter a lot throughtout their  time, as they are filmed.

First, concerning race, Agee and Gates enters St. Joseph High School, where the majority is white. Since growing up they have always gone to school where there is their kind only. Thus this gives them the feeling of isolation and also making them feel weak-ish and concern of how they'll adjust to it. With this situation, I got to say that it happens to everyone too, every students that enters a school. Every students themselves wants a place where they can feel like home and not have to think about how other "races" looks at them.

Second, concerning about class, class as in status, also plays a role in this film too; this also pulls economic division along with it so. When Arthur met the crisis of having to pay his school tuition fee back, and his parents weren't able to meet the requirements, he had to drop out of the highschool. Coming from the income family, it just pulled a part of his chances of being in NBA. I do see that it happens to a lot of families who do put their children into private schools or those expensive schools; but like how my cousin said, "You need a lot of money to keep yourself in those schools...". As for Gates, he too did came from a low income family, but with this too, he was able to get those scholarships that he needed to support and keep him at St. Joseph and in college. Even still right now many low income family are depending on those scholarships and merits. Even my family and I also depend on it too, since we know for sure that we will have some financial help.

Third, concerning about education, education indeed is what every parent want their children to have and get. From this film, Arthur's mom actually wants him to go to a good school, that is not like their neighborhood school. Not only does his mom too wants that, every parents wants that too, since of course they don't want their own child to be around drugs and gangs that runs around the neighborhood- no wants that. The message that this film bring out about education is really a value, since it is what lands you in your own future.

Forth, the values of the contemporary America, is seen to shown and told straight up from the film. The message indeed is that, in my opinion is that, no matter where you go around the nation everyone is gonna judge you and evaluate you.

Of course everybody goes through the same roughness in life, no matter how much one says that the situation is different - it's the same with its own twist of the story. It's like, all the above needed to happen  in order to see that we should do that or this and work our own way in life. Life is a puzzle and every puzzle is almost different.

Run Lola Run - Review

From Beginning to End (A Summary):

This is a German film. This film was made in 1998 that was written and directed by Tom Tykwer. Run Lola Run was released on August 20, 1998 in Germany, and released on June 18, 1999 in the US.

This film is divided into three parts, each part having their own results in how Lola, the main character, goes through the same thing over and over but ends with a different outcome.

The main goal of Lola throughout the whole film was to get $100,000 GD (German Dollar) to her boyfriend, Manni, before 12 o'clock, so that he doesn't get in trouble with his boss.

1st Part:

Lola & Manni
With the first part, Lola runs and hurries to her father's bank to get the money. But her father refuses to give her the money. Thus Lola runs back to Manni, where he is in fact robbing a store for the money, and she eventually helps Manni in the robbery. But when they fled, Lola was shot dead.

2nd Part:

As for the second part, Lola runs and hurries to her father's bank to get the money, limping her way there. Lola in fact robs her father's bank, using her father as hostage to get the money. She got out of the bank safely; but when she reached Manni, he got ran over by an ambulance and dies.

3rd Part:

On the last part, Lola runs and hurries, being more quicker, to her father's bank to get the money. But then, she goes to the casino and earned herself $129, 600 GD, and heads her way to meeting Manni. Manni in the other hand sees the homeless man that took his money and thus got it back. Manni and Lola  met up, and in the end has $129, 600 GD to themselves.

German "Time":

From class, I was told that this film focused a lot on time, which in Germany, time is really important; not only that but everything is really organize.

From researching the net I found that with introduction between people, you have to say their title correctly. Not only that but shaking hands is always a greeting that residents of Germany  always do.

Then for meals/ eating, there are definite time for everyone to eat with their families. And being on time for these are important, if you were to be late it was consider really rude. Therefore lunch begins at 12 at noon, having everyone leave work, and closing stores to got and eat. Dinner, is a more smaller meal, and is eat at times that varies in every family.

My Recommendation:

I got to say that I recommend this film to everyone.

Tsotsi- Review

From Beginning to End (A Summary):

This film was directed and written by Gaven Hood. Tsotsi was filmed in South Africa in 2005. It was released in December 23, 2005, and it won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language and also  nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language in 2006.

Tsotsi, revolves around a teen name Tsotsi, who is a street thug. In Tsotsi young age his name was David; when he was still young, his mother was ill from a disease, and he ran away from home, due to an abusive father.  Tsotsi ran away and lived with other homeless kids his age too. Thus growing up he was a street thug.
Tsotsi and his group of gang gets into many fights. Soon after one of the fights, Tsotsi shoots a rich lady name Pumla and steals the car; along with the car he finds that not only did he steal valuables but also a baby. Pumla survives of course but is unable to use her legs anymore; she had a sketched out of Tsotsi being the shooter.
this is Mariam and the baby

Tsotsi of course does care for the baby, but not so properly.  Tsotsi one day leaves the baby in his shack and went into the city. In the subway he meets a poor man in a wheel chair/bike. Meeting this man, Tsotsi thinks back to his childhood memory. Taking care of the baby, he aims his eyes on Mariam, a widow with a child, and puts forces on her to feed the baby and take care of the baby. Doing this Tsotsi learns of Mariams' life.

Aap, Tsotsi, Butcher & Boston
With his friend, Boston, injured, he cares and shelters him. Tsotsi even also had told him that he will find money for him to go and take his exams. Thus Tsotsi took two of his friend, Butcher and Aap to Pumla's house, and tied her husband up. Tsotsi didn't care for the money, all he wanted to take was the baby's things, but as for Butcher he took all the the golds he can find and the gun of Pumla's husband. Before leaving, Pumla's husband turned on his car alarm, thus in panic Butcher aimed the gun at him, but Tsotsi instead comes in and shoots Butcher to death, and ran off along with Aap.

Tsotsi returns to Mariam, where he left the baby, and learns that Mariam has know what he did, and wishes for the baby's return to his mother. Tsotsi does in fact returns the baby to the Pumla. He was outside the gate of the house, and surrounded by the police and was holding the baby. Pumla and her husband was able to get their baby back.

Tsotsi then falls in the polices' hands, but of course with the unknown ending of what really happened to Tsotsi is really up to how we want it to end- him dead or alive.

Orphans in South Africa:

I feel like orphans plays a big role in this film. We can see that from this movie to have a almost complete family is better than nothing.

As of now in South Africa, many children are orphaned at a young age even up till they are 18 of age. This mainly due to the lack of health care; and is build up on not having a father and mother to care for them from the start.

It has also been found that 29%,  found in mostly pregnant women, in South Africa has HIV. And also AIDs being another big part of the case too.

Chak De! India - Review

From Beginning to End (A Summary):

This film, Chak De! India was written by Jaideep Sahni, and directed by Shimit Amin. The film was released on August 10, 2007.

This film started out with one of our main key character, Kabir Khan finishing off the last shot of the men's world hockey game against Pakistan. But with this last shot he misses, and thus lead to a burden and title that he carried for seven years as a traitor of India. But then seven years later he was given the opportunity to regain the people of India's trust. Kabir Khan became the coach for the women's hockey team, setting the goal of getting the World Cup. Within the women's hockey team, it consist of India's top 16 ladies from every state. Kabir Khan trains them to be one and play as one for India and not for their own state. This leads to the ups and down that the team encounters and learns to cope with.

As it nears the time to attend the World Cup games, Kabir Khan and his friend learns that the team was not going to attend, due to not being able to play as well as the men. Thus Kabir Khan sets the deal of the women's team against the men's team. The game of course was won by the men, 3-2. But then everyone was pleased by the might of the women's team; thus won them the chance to go and attend the World Cup.

They all of course almost did not make it, but after winning Great Britain, they just kept on going up and up. Thus in the finale, against Australia, they were tied, with the 2-2, bringing in the tie breaker where five players from each team try to shoot for a goal and win the point. In the end, India won, making them the World Cup Championships. They brought pride and fame back to their country. This indeed lift the burden off of Kabir Khan, going back home to his home town not a traitor no more.

Hockey in India:

This film was in fact inspired by the India's women's field hockey team led by Captain Suraj Lata Devi, that won India in three consecutive years in Gold during 2002 in the Commonwealth Games. Overall field hockey in India in fact have been in the country for about 75 years now.

My Thoughts:

Overall I really like this movie, it brings in the intense of a game- of any game actually, and not only that but also the strength of women. I recommend this to anybody, especially if that person does not and have not heard or seen what is field hockey.

The Host - A Review

From Beginning to End (A Summary)

So with this film, the setting is set mainly by the Han River in South Korea. It started with an American doctor who told his Korean assistant to pour toxics down the drain, pouring every single one of the toxics down into the Han River. About four years later, two fishermen found a weird looking fish, with about six legs. Then about six years later, a man jumped off a bridge above the Han River, and notice a huge dark figure within the water.

As for present day, on a good sunny day, while Hyun-Seo, and her grandpa, Hee Boong, were watching t.v. Hyun-Seo's father, Park Gang-du, went out to the park to serve the costumers that bought some drinks and grilled squid from their snack bar. But as Gang-du goes toward the customers, he and other park guest finds that that there is a weird, dark object or animal that hung under the bridge. This dark weird looking animal, jumps right into the Han River and swims toward the people; and then as everyone goes toward the river, the first person to throw something into the water at the animal was Gang-du, then everyone else throws an item at the animal, and then the animal swims away. But not too long, the animal, the six legged mutant fish, jumps out of the Han River and starts to attack the people. Everyone ran and even some tried to stop the six legged mutant fish from killing the people.
But then, as Hyun-Seo got out of their snack bar home, Gang-du grabs her and took her running away from the six legged mutant fish, but then she trips, and Gang-du grabs a wrong girl. And he then sees his own daughter gets taken away by the six legged mutant fish right into the Han River.
Thus, this led to the assumption of Hyun-Seo being dead. Thus bringing in Nam-joo, the sister, and Nam-il, the brother, Gang-du, and Hee Bong together as a family.
Gang-du, Nam-joo, Hee Bong, and Nam-il

After that, park area by the Han River was taken down into investigation, and everyone was taken as being infected by a virus and were treated. As, Gang-du and the rest of the family are in the hospital, Gang-du receives a phone call from Hyun-Seo, saying that she's in a sewer. Gang-du of course ask  for help, but no one listened, instead they thought it was the virus that is taking in effect and also the death of Hyun-Seo that may have caused him to say that he received a call from her. Therefor they all escape the hospital and goes in search for Hyun-Seo in the sewers by the Han River. As they of course went back to the park area, they were attack by the mutant fish again, and they of course they attacked too with the weapons that they had, thus the mutant fish almost dead. But, then Hee Bong wanting to kill the fish with the last bullet, was killed by the mutant fish, because he did not have any bullets left to kill. Thus Gang-du and the dead body of Hee Bong were caught, and Nam-joo and Nam-il escapes.

Both Nam-joo and Nam-il went their own separate ways. Nam-il contacted one of his friend at a telephone company, and was able to identify were Hyun-Seo's call came from. Leading him to the one of the sewer by the north side bridge of the Han River. He of course texted and called Nam-joo and Gang-du of the location. They all went to the sewer in search Hyun-Seo. Gang-du found the place of where Hyun-Seo was; but as he went there, the mutant fish jumped out with Hyun-Seo in its mouth. They all chases the the mutant fish to where the people had began a riot.

They all attack the mutant fish and kills it, and Gang-du was able to retrieve Hyun-Seo's body along with her a little boy. Hyun-Seo died, but the little boy lived. Thus Gang-du takes in the little boy as his own.

Han River:

The Han River, is located in the northern part of the South Korea. And the fourth longest river in South Korean peninsula. The Han River runs into Seoul then into the Yellow Sea. The Han River is one of the largest river that was constructed by dams. Going back into history, the Han River plays an important part in the Korean history, since it was back then the place where trading took place. In this film, we can see that the Han River is an important river, since in this film we see that power plants are built near the river, and the riots they were played in the film also the importance of it too. Not only that, we see that the people of Korea is also pulling out the fact that if their river(s) are not kept clean from toxic any problems can happen to change the city and people, creating corruptions.
A Vocab to Know:

With in this film, a Korean word that I thought was interesting was Seo-ri and can be similarly to pronounced as the English word sorry.  Seo-ri, in Korean means that if a person is to steal they should and can steal food, or mainly what they need, but can not steal money. In which stealing money is being a thief.
Recommendation:

At first I was told that this movie is a "funny" and scary movie, but I didn't see it like it, it was not funny at all. But other then that I got to say that I do recommend this movie.
